A sustainable and integrated management for the Meuse International River Basin District
As stated in article 2 of the Ghent Agreement, the Contracting Parties of the IMC strive to achieve sustainable and integrated water management for the Meuse International River Basin District, taking into account in particular the multifunctionality of its waters.
In particular, they cooperate in order to:
coordinate the implementation of the requirements defined in the Water Framework Directive to achieve its environmental objectives and in particular the programmes of measures established by each of the Contracting Parties, for the Meuse international River basin district
to produce and update an umbrella management plan for the Meuse international River basin district in accordance with the Water Framework Directive
consult and coordinate measures for flood prevention and protection, taking into account ecological aspects, spatial planning, nature management and other areas such as agriculture, forestry and urban development, and contribute to mitigating the effects of floods and droughts, including preventive measures
to coordinate measures to prevent and control accidental pollution in watercourses and to ensure the transmission of the necessary information.
