Brief overview of preliminary project results Nutrients in Coastal Waters (DELTARES)

This study has been carried out on request of the International Meuse Commission and the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management with the goal to give insight in the total nitrogen and total phosphorus concentrations for the Dutch transboundary water bodies and the fresh, transitional, coastal and marine waters in 2027 for five different scenarios and compare these with the nutrient targets of the Water Framework Directive and the OSPAR Convention.

Adopted on 23 October 2000 by the European Parliament and entered into force on 22 December of the same year, Directive 2000/60/EC (WFD) aims to give an impulse to a more coherent water policy, by setting the European framework for water management and protection by river basin district.
